$500,000+ in New Prizes!

Milestones as well as open-ended progress prizes

We’re announcing over $500,000 in new prizes to be awarded in 2024! Our community goal (and $100,000 Grand Prize!) this year is to go from 5% of one scroll to 90% of four scrolls. We’re issuing a series of new prizes to get us closer to this goal:

• $50,000 - First Automated Segmentation Prize - Reproduce the 2023 Grand Prize result but faster

• 3 x $30,000 - First Letters Prizes - Find the first letters in Scrolls 2, 3, and 4

• $350,000 - Monthly Progress Prizes - Open ended prizes from $1,000-20,000

Second place prizes are also available for the First Automated Segmentation Prize and the First Letters Prizes, bringing the total to more than $500,000. Details for all prizes can be found on our 2024 Prizes page. Stay tuned throughout the year, as we will continue to adapt Vesuvius Challenge to rise to the demands of the papyri!
